Eddy County Courthouse:  Eddy County was created in 1889.  The original Eddy County courthouse was built in 1891 and is considered to be one of the most picturesque buildings of this type in the southwest with its Spanish style architecture.   It contains many unique and unusual features.  Large, dark, wooden beams jut out from the exterior walls.  The cattle brands of many of the pioneer Eddy County ranch families are hand carved in the dark wood facings at each entrance.  The interior features dark red Terrazo hallway floors, very large, ornate wrought iron chandeliers in the court room and exposed beams.  The original building was dark red brick.  In 1939, the conversion was made to its current architectural style.

The Civilian Conservation Corps provided employment for more than 50,000 young men in New Mexico during the Great Depression of the 1930's.  Three CCC companies were located on the grounds where the Carlsbad Hospital now stands.  They worked on flood control and reclamation projects along the Pecos River and the Guadalupe Mountains, and helped build the city's "President's Park."
