Conchas Reservoir Irrigation Headworks This building was constructed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers as a part of the Conchas reservoir project. Through here, the water releases to the Arch Hurley Conservancy District are controlled. Water released here irrigates 41,000 acres of the Tucumcari irrigation project through approximately 300 miles of canals and laterals making possible principal crops of grain, cotton, sorghum, alfalfa, broomcorn, and vegetables. A portion of these crops support a thriving cattle growing operation which contributes heavily to the economy of the region. February 2000 |
