| Jemez Monument can be found in north central New Mexico, off NM Hwy 4, mile marker 18, in the town of Jemez Springs,
along the route which is now part of the Jemez Mountain Trails Scenic Byway, a National
Scenic Byway. The village of Giusewa was occupied by ancestors of the Jémez Indians before the arrival of the Spanish in 1541. Its ruins lie close to those of the great stone mission church of San José de Los Jémez, which was built by the Franciscans around 1622. Further information: 829-3530
